MG Timeline Parks Up in Eastbourne
9th September 2008

From midday on Sunday, visitors to Eastbourne seafront will be able to witness the MG timeline laid out before them as the famous cars park up opposite the Grand Hotel, with some dating as far back as the 1930's. Visitors as well as those taking part in the run can chill out on the lawns and enjoy a picnic as Phil Solomon's 1940's style big Brass Band provides the soundtrack to a perfect afternoon.
Eastbourne Borough Council Spokesperson for Tourism, Cllr Steve Wallis said "This weekend is certainly gearing up to be pretty spectacular in Eastbourne, with some real sights to witness. While Go Fast! Speed Days provide an action-packed day of gravity racing at Beachy Head, those looking for a more relaxing way to spend their Sunday can marvel at some impressive MG's and chill out to the sounds of a brass band on Eastbourne's picturesque seafront."
2008 marks the 19th year of the South Downs Run and is being organised by West Sussex MG Owners Club. Over 300 MG cars are registered to take part and will kick off their journey in Chichester and travel 80 miles along the coast to Eastbourne.
The cavalcade of MG's promises to be a real spectacle as they drive a scenic route passing through Goodwood, Storrington, Bramber, Lewes, and Glyndbourne before finally arriving in Eastbourne.
This year's South Downs Run is being dedicated to the memory of Reg Clarke, a former organiser of the event. Reg and a friend and climbing companion died earlier this year when the two were engulfed in a blizzard whilst scaling Monte Rosa in Italy.
