UK’s Friendliest Resort Nominated for 8th Year
18 May 2007
For the eighth year running Eastbourne has been nominated for the Most Group Friendly UK Destination in the prestigious Group Travel Awards.
Nominated as one of 7 finalists along with Blackpool, Durham, London, Norwich, Torquay and York, all eyes are on Eastbourne to win this coveted accolade for the fourth time along with the Devonshire Park Hotel which has been nominated for the Best Individual Hotel for Groups award for the first time.
Councillor Wallis, Eastbourne Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Economy, Tourism & Environment says “These awards are voted for by customers and we should be very proud that the town has been nominated for this category for the eighth year and that one of Eastbourne’s hotels has received recognition in these highly acclaimed awards.”
No stranger to travel awards, the town walked away with the top award of Best UK Resort in 2005 and has just received a Blue Flag award for its beaches earlier this year.
Joanne Taylor, Proprietor of the Devonshire Park Hotel says "We are delighted to be nominated for this award - it recognises the ongoing commitment we have to our customers, from DVD players in every room to Wi-Fi internet access throughout the hotel. We are continually improving our product and the high level of repeat business shows its works."
Held on 22 June at the Radisson SAS Hotel, Portman Square, all awards are nominated by readers of the industry leading magazine Group Travel Organiser, read by Tour Operators and Group Organisers across the UK.
Aiming to showcase the award to crowds of tennis fans at the International Women’s Open on 23 June, Eastbourne hopes to hold on to its own title of Most Group Friendly UK Destination.
