Eastbourne is the only town in East Sussex in the running to be named Britain's Best Picnic site as Warburton's family bakers search for the country's top spot for dining alfresco.

Warburtons have opened a countrywide search to find Britain's Best Picnic Site and Eastbourne is included alongside 9 other finalists in the South East region. With Warburton's exhibiting at Airbourne later this summer, the town is certainly in the minds of the family bakers.

Eastbourne Borough Council Spokesperson for Tourism, Cllr Steve Wallis said "Eastbourne, with its stunning seafront and picturesque South Downs backdrop, makes the perfect place for a picnic and it's no wonder the town has made the regional finals of a national competition. Eastbourne offers fantastic inspiration for making the most of the outdoors. Take the family to Eastbourne's award-winning beaches, or head for Beachy Head and enjoy a picnic while gazing out to sea from the chalk cliff tops. From Helen Gardens offering petanque and putting, through to Sovereign Harbour, one of the biggest manmade marinas in Europe; you'll be spoilt for choice when it comes to enjoying a picnic along Eastbourne seafront."

With more sunshine than any of its rivals, both national and regional, Eastbourne as the sunniest place in the UK boasts an average 34.6 hours of sunshine a week and offers plenty of sunny days for a picnic. The town also holds a Blue Flag award for its seafront and offers safe bathing and excellent facilities.

Offering a packed events programme too, with Eastbourne's premier events taking place on and around the seafront, there's plenty to entice visitors to make the most of what's on offer and enjoy a picnic at the same time.

Warburton's will be doing exactly that themselves when they come to Airbourne, the biggest seafront airshow in the world, from 14-17 August. Sit on the beach and watch dynamic flying displays from the Red Arrows, RAF Typhoon, Tucano, Tutor and Hawk while enjoying a traditional British picnic.

With other events taking place throughout the year, Eastbourne offers action packed spots for a picnic. Be inspired by the International Women's Open tennis with a garden party atmosphere in June and enjoy strawberries and cream outdoors, or pack up some sandwiches and enjoy a midday time out at the action packed Extreme sports festival in July.
