54 Million Transformation

Devonshire Park Development

All systems go for £54 million Devonshire Park transformation.
Devonshire Quarter

The redevelopment will create first-class cultural, conferencing and sporting facilities known as The Devonshire Park Quarter.

The Welcome Building

Welcome Building

The new Welcome Building provides a fully accessible entrance to the Congress Theatre, including lifts to every floor, two new large conference spaces, a central box office, breakout and hospitality areas. A new refreshments area will provide spectacular views across the tennis lawns to the International Tennis Centre.

In addition to the construction of the brand new Welcome Building, the existing Grade II* Listed buildings, Devonshire Park Theatre and the Winter Garden will be extensively restored and full completion due by 2020. This will include improvements to the accessible infrastructure between the Gold Room and the Floral Hall with additional meeting rooms created where the current administration offices are housed.

The Devonshire Quarter project was able to provide the Congress Theatre with an extensive refurbishment which reinstated and enhanced the stylish interior that was present when it opened in 1963. The old heating system and air conditioning unit was replaced keeping to the demands of modern theatre systems. This follows the completion in 2015 of an award-winning scheme to restore and improve the building’s iconic façade as well as make it more energy efficient.

Architects Levitt Bernstein have been appointed to lead the design team and they will continue for the duration of the project.

The original Fitness Centre at Devonshire Park was demolished last year and has been replaced with new larger state-of-the-art tennis players' facilities. Outside the tennis tournament season, this building will form part of the conference and events offer at Devonshire Park.

Excellence Award for Congress Theatre Restoration

The Congress Theatre auditorium has had a 1680 seat renovation with new technical and temperature provision. The Grade II* listed Congress Theatre scooped an Excellence Award for design and innovation.

The scheme won the refurbishment category of the Schueco Excellence Awards 2016, run in conjunction with the Journal of the Royal Institution of British Architects (RIBA), with the panel of judges praising the accomplished way the team worked with the listed fabric of the theatre.

Retail Revolution

As well as the Devonshire Park Centre development of the cultural quarter, Eastbourne town centre's shopping hub, the new Beacon shopping Centre is also enjoying investment with an £85 million transformation. New shops include Jack Wills, H&M and FatFace as well as restaurants including Nandos and the new state-of-the-art Cineworld.

It's very much business as usual during this transition with a great selection of shopping favourites and restaurants at your convenience.
